Tetracycline

Tablets are Formulary antimicrobials: Use in accordance with Trust guidelines. 

Capsules and Injection are Restricted formulary antimicrobial: For details see OUH netFormulary

AWaRe antibiotic classification: 'Access'. Use as per guidelines.

Dosage

Indication Oral dose
Standard dose 100mg BD
Neurosyphilis 200mg BD
Acne 100mg OD
Blepharitis (with signs of meibomian gland dysfunction or rosacea)  50mg OD

Renal and hepatic impairment

Renal impairment 

  • No dose adjustment required.
  • PD and HD: Not dialysed.
  • HDF and High Flux: Unknown dialysability.

 

Hepatic impairment

  • No dose adjustment required.
  • Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment or those receiving potentially hepatotoxic drugs.
