Genitourinary

For prescribing use Adult Interventional Radiology powerplan on EPR

Nephrostomy and Ureteric Stenting or stent exchange  (Native kidney)

Preferred, including for penicillin allergy (non-severe or severe):  

gentamicin 3mg/kg iv. For MRSA positive receiving gentamicin: ADD teicoplanin 800mg iv

OR

co-trimoxazole 960mg po 1 hour prior to procedure 

OR 

fosfomycin 3g po single dose 3 hours before procedure (depending on sensitivities) 

Note: If stent replacement is in the setting of urinary infection – current or recurrent -  then prophylaxis may need to be tailored. If already on treatment antimicrobials then ensure doses are given within 1 hour of procedure or add additional dose of an alternative agent e.g. co-trimoxazole 960mg po or gentamicin 3mg/kg iv.

 

 

Transplant Nephrostomy and Ureteric Stent

Preferred, including for penicillin allergy (non-severe or severe):   

gentamicin 3mg/kg iv

For MRSA positive patients: ADD teicoplanin 800mg iv
