Fludroxycortide - tape and ointment
Fludroxycortide is a topical steroid used to treat chronic localised overgranulation and/or dry scaly skin conditions.
Fludroxycortide is a topical steroid available as a tape or ointment. It is used on difficult to treat inflammatory skin conditions, especially when the skin is dry and scaly.
Ointment preparation may be selected to ease application to challenging anatomical locations.
Contraindications include chicken pox, vaccinia, tuberculosis of the skin, hypersensitivity of the components, facial rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, perianal and genital pruritus, dermatoses in infancy including eczema, dermatitis napkin eruption, impetigo, herpes simplex and candid or dermatophyte infections.
Usage guidance
- Prior to application skin should be clean, dry and shorn of hair.
- Tape: cut tape to cover the lesion and a quarter inch margin of surrounding skin
- In most instances, the tape need only remain in place for 12 out of 24 hours.
- Ointment: apply to affected area 2-3 times a day.
- When using ointment ensure patients are advised not to smoke or go near naked flames due to risk of severe burns.
- Use in children and facial areas should be limited to 5 days.
- Do not occlude treatment areas with dressings or tight clothing.
